Executive Committee of Milagres College Alumni Association and IQAC

The joint meeting of the Executive Committee of Milagres College Alumni Association and IQAC was held on 12.02.2019  in the Audio Visual Hall of Milagres College, Kallianpur.

The Agenda for the Meeting was:

  • Review of General Body meeting
  • College Day/Alumni Day
  • NAAC/IQAC
  • Any other Matter.

Mr. Salvadore Noronha, President of Alumni Association welcomed the gathering and Mrs. Sophia Dias, Secretary presented a brief report of the last meeting.

It was decided to hold the Alumni Day on 8th at 5 p.m immediately after the College Day Celebrations and invite a Guest among the old students and organize a formal programme followed by cultural programme and fellowship. In this regard a committee was formed with the Cultural Secretaries Mrs. Jovita Fernandes and Mr. Naveen Kumar as the Conveners. The following are the committee members:- Mrs. Sindhura,  Mr.karthik, Mr. Sandeep, Mr. Hemanth, Mr. Shekar Gujjarbettu, Mr. Royston Miss Loylees,  Loyleeta,  Akshatha, Nisha and Chaitra.

It was brought to the notice of the executive committee members that a felicitation programme was being held in Dubai on 16.02.2019 to Felicitate Mrs. Hilda Rodrigues and Mrs. Mary Mammen Retired Professor of Milagres College. The principal was invited for this programme. It was decided to sponsor the journey fare of the principal from the Alumni Fund.

The principal informed that outside the college alumni branches cannot be formed with office bearers only get-together and gatherings of Old Students can take place. He informed that the registering of Alumni Association is under process. He also informed that Mr. Jayprakash Shetty student President of 1983 batch has been invited as the Guest for College Day. He also informed that one student MSW Department may get a Rank this year. He said that the preparation for the NAAC visit is going on. He informed that from next year to look after and co-ordinate the affairs of the Alumni Association a staff will be appointed and our old Student Mr. Alfred Crasto has agreed to sponsor the salary of the staff. The IQAC coordinator Dr. Jayaram Shettigar informed the members to fill the feedback forms and return the same at the earliest.  He also briefed the members about the AQAR and NAAC preparations. Mrs.  Joyce Lewis, Joint Secretary, proposed the vote of thanks.

Meeting of the IQAC and Student’s Welfare Council

A joint meeting of IQAC with Students Representatives was held on Friday 11-1-2019 in the Audio-Visual Hall.  The meeting was presided over by the Principal Dr. Vincent Alva, IQAC coordinator Dr Jayaram Shettigar, SWC Director Mrs. Annamma and members of student’s welfare council were present.

  1. It was decided that the president and members of student welfare council along with NSS NCC Rovers and Rangers to participate in Republic Day Parade Programme.
  2. It was decided to celebrate college day on 8-3-2019 and time will be allotted to each class to perform cultural programmes.
  3. Since the students demanding for traditional day, it was decided to observe traditional day on 23-3-2019.

4. It was decided to arrange a Farewell programme to Retired staff Prof Subramanya Joshi  on the College Day. A students representative from III BSc have give farewell speech on the occasion

20 December 2018: IQAC Meeting

The joint meeting of the IQAC with the members of Teaching Staff was held on 20thDec 2018 at 3:30 PM in the A. V Hall.  The meeting was presided over by the Principal Dr. Vincent Alva.  The IQAC convener, Dr Jayaram Shettigar welcomed the members.  The members discussed various matters proposed in the agenda and the following resolutions were made/accepted during the meeting.

Agenda:

  1. AQAR 2017-18.
  2. Preparation of SSR.
  3. The AQAR 2017-18 Presented in the meeting by the IQAC convener, Dr Jayaram Shettigar, was discussed. Since the information furnished was incomplete, it was decided to upload the AQAR 2017-18 to NAAC Site with more details.
  4. Since two years have been completed after 3rd cycle of NAAC Accreditation, it was decide to prepare SSR for the previous years. It was decided to involve all the members of Teaching and some Non Teaching staff in the preparation of Self Study Report.

Following Committee was formed in the Meeting.

For the purpose of the NAAC preparation, seven criteria’s of NAAC Assessment were distributed among the members of the teaching staff. The following are the conveners of the seven criteria of the NAAC.

23 June 2018: Staff Training Programme

IQAC of Milagres College, Kallianpur organized  Staff Training Programme for the staff members on  23rd June, 2018. Rev.Fr.Dr. Lawrence C. D’Souza inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.  Principal Dr. Vincent Alva presided over the programme.  Dr. Denis Fernandis, HOD History, St. Aloysius College was the resource Person.  Dr. Jayaram Shettigar, IQAC co-ordinator organised the Programme.  Members of teaching staff participated in this Training programme.

20 JUNE 2018: IQAC Meeting

A meeting of the IQAC was held on 20th June, 2018  presided over by the Principal Dr. Vincent Alva.. The IQAC convener, Dr Jayaram Shettigar welcomed the members.

The following resolutions were made/accepted during the meeting.

  1. Action Plan submitted by all the departments which was approved.
  2. It was decided to prepare an Academic Calendar
  3. Regarding the AQAR: It was decided to instruct all the departments to provide the inputs required for AQAR 2017-18 by the end of Sept. 2018.
  4. Since two years have been completed after 3rd cycle of NAAC Accreditation, it was decide to instruct all the Departments to collect the information required for preparation of SSR of the previous years.

  1. Milagres Center for Career Excellence: It was decided to give training to the students for Civil Service Examination competitive examinations. It was decided to have MOU with National IAS Academy which is headed by our Alumni Mr. Sunil BN.
  2. It was also decided to preparation for NIRF

It was decided to organize Swachh Bharat Summer Internship Programme under the leadership of IQAC Coordinator.

The Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR)

16 March 2018: NAAC New Methodology and Quality Sustenance

Milagres College, Kallianpur, in association with Association of First Grade College Principals’ of Mangalore University will be organising one day National Level workshop on NAAC New Methodology and Quality Sustenance at Milagres College,Kallianpur. Prof Mahesh Rao, Joint Director Collegiate Education will be inaugurating the workshop. Dr Vincent Alva, Principal will preside over the programme. “ Literary Echoes”, A book consisting of research articles published by the Dept of English will be released by Prof Peter D’Souza. Dr Subashini Muthukrishnan, Bangalore and Dr Denis Fernandes, Mangalore are going to lead the session, Prof Samuel K Samuel, President of Principals’ Association, Dr Jayaram Shettigar, NAAC Co-ordinator will be present on the occasion.

03 October 2017 – 04 October 2017: Two Days Staff Training Programme

Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Milagres College, Kallianpur organized for a two days Staff Training Programme for the staff members on 03 October 2017 and 04 October 2017. Dr. Vincent Alva, Principal welcomed the guest, Rev. Fr. Dionysius Vaz, S.J., Rector of St. Aloysius College Institutions, Mangalore. Mrs. Shylet Mathias, Staff Council Secretary introduced the guest. Rev. Fr. spoke on the topic, ‘Social Responsibility: Teachers’ Commitment towards Social Cause’, highlighting on emotional thinking and critical thinking, stressing on transforming emotional thinking into critical thinking. He also spoke on the need and importance of mentoring of students by the teachers and also briefed about the various acts of laws like Right to Information Act, Right to Education and Right to Food Act. Mrs. Shylet Mathias, Staff Council Secretary also proposed the vote of thanks.

21 June 2017: Orientation Programme for I Degree Students


The Internal Quality Assurance Cell in association with the Students Welfare Council organized a one day Orientation Programme for the first year degree students of the college. Asst. Prof. Mr. Manoj Fernandes – Dept. of Business Management, Asst. Prof. Mr. Dheeraj Sequira – Dept. of English, and Asst. Prof. Ms. Jenice Jene Goveas – Dept. of Chemistry, from St. Aloysius College, Mangalore were the resource persons. The students were split into three groups for the workshop that followed the formal programme. Principal Dr. Vincent Alva presided over the programme. Coordinator of IQAC – Prof. Jayaram Shettigar introduced the resource persons. Directors of Students Welfare Council – Prof. Subramanya Joshi and Associate Prof. Annamma were also present. Mr. Stuart Olivera, I BCA welcomed the gathering, Ms. Ashitha, I B.A.,  proposed the Vote of Thanks, and Ms. Rencita D’souza I B.Com. compeered the programme.

19 June 2017: Orientation Programme for Degree students


 

 

 

 

 

Orientation Programme for the degree students of the college was organized. The Director of Glowinstar Academy, Ambalpady, Dr. Thomas Quadros was the chief guest. In his inaugural address, he spoke about the five stages of life – Growth, Exploration, Establishment, Maintenance and Decline; of which, the establishment stage ranging from the age 15 to 24 is of most importance. He called upon the students to utilize their energy and talents, and make the best preparation for their upcoming stage – the stage of Establishment. The correspondent of Milagres Institutions, Rev. Fr. Stany B. Lobo presided over the programme. Campus Minister, Rev. Dr. Prakash Anil Castelino, Principal Dr. Vincent Alva, Directors of Students Welfare Council – Prof. Subrahmanya Joshi and Associate Prof. Annamma were present on the occasion. Ms. Shrinidhi Kamath, III B.Com. A welcomed the gathering, Mr. Joshwa Quadros, III B.Com. proposed the Vote of Thanks, and Mr. Aral Dsouza, II BCA compered the programme.

12 April 2017: Final Redrafting of Vision and Mission Statement of the College

Most Rev. Dr. Gerald lsaac Lobo, the Bishop of Udupi Diocese presided over the programme. Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Lawrence D’Souza, Secretary, Catholic Education Society of Udupi, Udupi, Rev. Fr. Stany B. Lobo the correspondent of the college, Campus Director Rev. Fr. Dr. Prakash Anil Castelino, Principal Dr. Gerald Pinto, P.T.A. President Mr. Ravichandra Nayak, IQAC Convenor Dr. Jayaram Shettigar and the stake holders like members of Teaching Staff, members of IQAC, PTA, Student representatives and Alumni took part in the programme. Dr. Aloysius H. Sequiera, Professor, School of Management, NlTK. Surathkal was the resource person.

08 April 2017: The Second Joint Meeting of the Management Staff and IOAC

The Second Joint Meeting of the Management, the staff and the IQAC was presided over by Rev. Fr. Dr. Prakash Anil Castelino, the Campus Director. Dr. Gerald Pinto, the Principal, Staff Secretary Mrs. Shylet Mathias. Dr. Jayaram Shettigar, IQAC Convenor and the members of teaching staff were present. All the heads of the departments, conveners of various cells and association and individual staff members presented the respective reports of the implementation of the action plan of the academic year 2016 – 2017 and also plan of action for the year 2017 – 2018.

Orientation Programme for the Young Teachers

IQAC of the college organized One day Orientation Programme for the young teachers. Dr. Clarence Miranda, Principal, Pompei College, Aikala was the resource person. Dr. Miranda threw light on various aspects like preparation, class control technique, student – teachers relation, understanding student psychology. etc. Rev. Fr. Stany B. Lobo, the Correspondent of the College, Dr. Gerald Pinto, the Principal, Dr. Jayaram Shettigar, IQAC Convenor and the lecturers were present in the programme.

‘Golden Miracles Souvenir 1967 – 2017’ Released

Sri. Praveen Muddur, Reporter, Udayavani a Kannada daily, addressed the students at Milagres College after releasing the Magazine. Dr. Jayaram Shettigar, the editor said that the magazine is dedicated to those children who are the victims of so called civilized people. Dr. Gerald Pinto, Principal of the college in his presidential remarks congratulated Dr. Jayaram Shettigar for bringing out very nice magazine. Prof. Cyril Mathias was also present on the occasion. Ms. Brinda compered the programme. Ms. Ancilla welcomed and Ms. Anusha proposed the vote of thanks.

09 March 2017: Second Workshop on Revisiting Vision and Mission of the College

IQAC of the college organized the second One day workshop on ‘Revising Vision and Mission Statement of the college at A.V. Hall. Dr. A. H. Sequiera, School of Management, N.I.T.K., Surathkal was the resource person. The report given by the leader of all the groups were collected and were discussed in detail. It was also decided to finalize the Vision and Mission statement of the college in the final workshop which will be held on 12 April 2017.

06 March 2017: Kala Sinchana 2017

Milagres College, Kallianpur hosted Mangalore University Inter – College Fine Arts Competition ‘ Kalasinchana 2017’ at 10.00 am in A. V. Hall of the College under the Coordinatorship of Dr. Jayaram Shettigar. Dr. Gerald Pinto, the principal of the college presided over the programme. Sri. Vaman Padukere, the President South Kanara Photographers Association inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp. Famous artist Jayavanth Manipal was the chief guest. Dr. Jayaram Shettigar delivered the opening remarks and famous Tandoori pot maker Tandoori Brahma Sri. Manju Kulal Meladpu Aroor was present on the occasion and was feIiciItated by the college recognizing his contribution to the craft of pot making particularly Tandoori pot. Ms. Pavana compered the programme. Ms. Srinidhi welcomed the gathering and Mr. Joshwa proposed the vote of thanks. The following competitions were conducted like Photography. Collage. Cartooning, Clay Modeling, Poster Making and Rangoli. Mr. Melwin C. Rego, Mrs. Annamma, Mr. Pradeep J. Moras, Mr. Karthik Nayak, Mrs. Anupama Jogi, Mrs. Reshma, Mrs. Harinakshi M. D., Mr. Suresh Kumar, Mr. Ravinandan and Mr. Nityananda Shetty were event coordinators. The judges of the competition were: Mr. James Vaz, popular Cartoonist. Mr. Srinath Manipal. Popular Sand Artist, Sri Jayavanth Manipal a famous artist, Mr. Stephan Quadros. Professional Photographer, Prof. Melwin C. Rego, H.O D. Sociology, Dr. Vincent Alva. Department of English. Dr. Herald Monis. HOD Commerce, Mr. Sandesh, ACCS – Mangalore. Mrs. Sindhura. Department of Mathematics, Mr. Nagaraj. Department of Commerce.  Mr. Ajith, reporter of the popular Kannada Daily Vijaya Kamataka who was present on the inaugural session, was very much impressed by the felicitation to Sri. Manju Kulal. The students of the following colleges participated in the competition: Mangalore University – Mangalagangothri, St. Antony’s College – Karkala, UPMC – Manipal, Richard Almeida College – Kundapur, Govindadas College – Surathkal, GGC – Uppinangadi, Shri Sharada College – Basrur, Sri Devi College – Mangalore, B.B. Hedge College – Kundapur, Government First Grade College – Hiriyadka, Alvas College – Moodbidri, Vivekananda College – Putturu, Milagres College – Kallianpur and Government First Grade College – Kota. A total of 63 competitors from 13 colleges participated in the competition. Prof. Melwin C. Rego, Dean of Arts Faculty was the Chief Guest at the prize distribution ceremony. Dr. Gerald Pinto, Principal of the College presided over the programme. Dr. Jayaram Shettigar and Ms. Rosalia Cardoza the president of Students Welfare Council were present on the occasion. Mr. Ravinandan and Mrs. Reshma coordinated the prize distribution programme. The following competitors got the first, second and third prizes respectively.

20 October 2016: Joint Meeting of the Management Staff and lQAC

A joint meeting of the management, the staff and IQAC was held to discuss the exit report of the NAAC Peer Team which will visit the college from 05 October 2017 to 07 October 2017. The meeting was presided over by the Rev. Fr. Stany B. Lobo the Correspondent of the College, Dr. Gerald Pinto. the Principal, initiated the discussion on the exit report. Rev. Fr. Dr. Prakash Anil Castelino, Campus Director, Dr. Jayaram Shettigar IQAC Convenor, and the members of teaching staff were present. Each and every point mentioned in the exit report was discussed. It was also decided to send a copy of the outcome of the meeting to the management for further action.

 

One day Workshop on ‘Revisiting Vision & Mission of the College

IQAC of the college organized a one day workshop on ‘Revisiting Vision and Mission Statement of the College’. Most Rev. Dr. Gerald Isaac Lobo, the Bishop of Udupi Diocese presided over the programme. Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Lawrence D’Souza, Secretary, Catholic Education Society, Udupi inaugurated the workshop. Rev. Fr. Stany B. Lobo – Correspondent of the college, Campus Director – Rev. Fr. Dr. Prakash Anil Castelino, Principal – Dr. Gerald Pinto, P.U. Principal – Smt. Savitha Kumari, P.T.A. President – Mr. Ravichandra Nayak, lQAC Convenor Dr. Jayaram Shettigar and the stake holders like members of Teaching Staff, members of lQAC, PTA, student representatives and Alumni took part in the programme. Dr. Aloysius H. Sequiera, Professor, School of Management, NlTK. Surathkal was the resource person. The participants were divided in six groups and were asked to rewrite the Vision and Mission Statement of the college after the theoretical session. The report given by the leaders of all the groups were collected and were sent to the resource person. The resource person studied the report given by the six groups.

30 July 2016: One day University level Workshop on ‘Competence Building Initiative’

A one day University level workshop on ‘Competence Building Initiation’ for under graduate students, was organized in association with Mangalore University History Teachers Associations (MANUSHA). Dr. B. Jagadish Shetty, Principal, Sri Poornaprarna College, Udupi inaugurated the programme. Principal Dr. Gerald Pinto presided over the programme. Dr. Jayaram Shettigar, Convenor – IQAC, Smt. Reshma – Convener of the programme, Prof. Melwin Rego, Dean of Arts Faculty and Ms. Pooja, the student leader were present on the occasion. 136 students and 16 teachers and resource persons participated in the programme. Dr. Jayaram Shettigar and Smt. Reshma were the resource persons.

 

Interaction with Alumnus Mr. Nagaraj, Planet Mars Foundation

‘One has to convert problems in to an opportunity and take the life as a challenge and work hard  to achieve the goal. That is the secret of success”, said Mr. Nagaraj the Alumnus of Milagres College, Kallianpur who is presently working as an Energy Consultant. He introduced a newly founded NGO ‘Planet Mars Foundation’, which is working for the social cause by helping poor for education, health, etc. “A part of our earning has to be shared for the social cause. That gives real satisfaction and a meaning to the life”, he added. He was addressing the students in the programme organized by IQAC. Dr. Gerald Pinto, the Principal presided over the function. IQAC Convenor Dr. Jayaram Shettigar organized the programme. Student quality circle student leader Mr. Johan C. A. Lewis welcomed the gathering. Mr. Alfred proposed the vote of thanks and Mr. Nithish, I B.C.A. compered the programme. Many old students and team members of Planet Mars Foundation were present on the occasion.

The Annual Quality Assurance Report

13 August 2015: Workshop on Leadership and Team Building

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell of Milagres College, Kallianpur organized a days workshop on ‘Leadership & Team Building’ for the members of the Students Welfare Council and Students Quality Circle on 13th August, 2015. Prof Joslyn Lobo, Dean & Faculty, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore conducted the workshop. The workshop included various activities on group dynamics, leadership questions, building interpersonal relationship, leadership qualities, team building and drawing action plan. The workshop was very much appreciated by the participants. The workshop was well attended by 65 members of S.W.C and S.Q.Circle. During the inaugural session, Prof. Melwin C Rego, IQAC Co-Ordinator welcomed the gathering. Principal, Dr Nery Cornelio stressed the need for such creative programmes for the todays leaders. Prof. Sophia Dias, one of the Directors of Students Welfare Council was present on the occasion. The programme was compered by Ms Rosalia Cardoza of II B.A. Mr Nikhil Mascarenhas, I MSW student of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore assisted in conducting the workshop. Breakfast, Lunch and refreshments were served to the participants and certificate of participation was issued.

25 July 2015: Staff Training Programme in Soft Skills

“Everyone is creative, but only few unfurl it. When we teach to the students, to be effective teacher we must be student first and think in terms of students”, said Mr. Kenneth Sequeira, HR Director, IMRB, Mumbai. He was addressing young staff of Milagres College in the audio visual room on the topic ‘Everyday Creative Thinking’. He further said that today’s students can get all information in internet. If the teachers do not become creative in the present days, then colleges will be out of place in few years”. Convener of IQAC Prof. Melvin Rego welcomed the resource person and welcomed all. Principal in charge Dr. Gerald Pinto presided over the programme. Prof. Vincent Alva proposed the vote of thanks.

15 June 2015: Workshop on Open Source

The IQAC organized a workshop to the teaching and non-teaching faculty of the college on ‘Open Source’. All the members of the staff attended the workshop. The workshop on open source was conducted by Mr Brian Pinto, Partner, Advanced Computer and Communication Services, Mangalore. He addressed the staff on the origin, development and application of open source in computing systems. He conducted the session on Lunux Zorin, its use and application. Mr. Sandeep Amin, Software Consultant, conducted a session on the Libre Office, Lunux compatibility with other open source software. Dr Nery Cornelio, Principal, Milagres College, Kallianpur addressed the staff on the purpose and use of open source in the college campus. IQAC co-Ordinator, Prof. Melwin C. Rego, Welcomed the resource persons and the staff for the workshop.
