National Service Scheme (NSS)

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of the Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides opportunities for students in higher education to participate in government-led community service activities and programmes. The aim is to provide hands-on experience in delivering community service. Since its inception in 1969, NSS participation has grown significantly, with over 3.8 million students volunteering as of March 2018.

NSS Badge:

NSS volunteers wear the badge with pride and responsibility. The Konark wheel in the badge has 8 bars representing 24 hours, symbolizing dedication to service at all times.

  • The blue color represents the cosmos and the NSS's contribution to mankind's welfare.
